Billy Bobble Head

An American pale ale masterfully brewed by Harrogate Brew Co.

The amazing artwork on the can obviously gave the inspiration to the idea I had in mind for the photo I wanted to do.

Firstly I wanted to get my visual down on paper so out came the sketch pad and pens

The colour palette I wanted to be all about blue, I felt that would compliment the can the best rather than something completely contrasting.

Props wise I custom made an mdf platform and painted it white, I tried a couple of different sizes but felt the 120mm diameter 20mm thick was the best to go with the can in terms of not over powering the scene and any smaller would seem inadequate.

The spring for the can was hand made by myself using aluminium moulding wire, I found an item to wrap the wire tightly around to give the perfect diameter coil and then it was simply a case of pulling the spring apart just enough to look right, being moulding wire it stays exactly where you leave it so I could also control the lean perfectly, an empty can was required of course, much to my approval.

Now the next problem would be the water splash hitting the back of the can, as the can is mounted to a spring throwing water at it will make it move all of the place, it had to be steadied some how, so insert a c stand and a piece of wooden dowel and plenty of hot glue to come down from above to meet the top of the can.

Many many throwing of water later and lots of water everywhere I think I managed to get the shot done.

Also in between I snuck in some images to use to produce a gif, rather simple but effective.
